'House of the Dragon' trailer: It's war for the Iron Throne in 'Game of Thrones' spinoff

There is a battle for Iron Throne. Again.

HBO has released Wednesday's thrilling, epic trailer for the new "Game of Thrones” spinoff, "The House of the Dragon," the most intimate look yet at the highly anticipated series, which will air Aug.21 on HBO Max.

Trailer shows that there are dragons. However, there is also a new conflict brewing in Westeros. The question of who will succeed Targaryen king the Iron Throne looms. Multiple people claim the seat. George R.R. Martin is the author of the series. Martin's "Fire and Blood," which explores Westeros' past hundreds of centuries before the events of "Thrones," and how the Targaryens got to power and maintained it, is the basis for the series. Fans will recognize the Targaryens from the series as the Daenerys' ancestors.

Game of Thrones returns: Watch the first trailer for House of the Dragon, a fiery and bloody show.

The trailer features Matt Smith (The Crown) as Prince Daemon Targaryen. He is the heir to King Viserys' throne (Paddy Considine), but is challenged by Princess Rhaenyra, Viserys' niece (Emma D'Arcy). Rhaenyra is the king’s daughter and has a legitimate claim to the crown. However, there is one problem. She's also a woman.

The series also features the powerful Lord Corlys Valaryon (Steve Toussaint), Alicent Hightower ("The Sound of Metal"), her father Otto Hightower (“Rhys Ifans”), the Hand of King (a notoriously dangerous job in Westeros, as "Thrones”-lovers know).

Wil Johnson is Ser Vaemond Velaryon's younger brother and commander in Velaryon navy. John Macmillan portrays Ser Laenor Velaryon; Savannah Steyn portrays Lady Laena Velayron; Theo Nate portrays Ser Laenor Velaryon; Rhaenys Targaryen's son; Sonoya Mikuno ("Devs") plays Mysaria.

There are many thrills in the 10-episode "Dragon," considering the battles, dragons, and dirt seen in the trailer. On Saturday, HBO will provide more information on "Dragon" at a San Diego Comic-Con panel.
